Avec seulement quelques semaines avant le plus gros spectacle de drag au Québec cet été, le Snap-On Grand National, qui devait avoir lieu au Circuit ICAR de Mirabel, Richard Arnold, directeur de course a reçu une très mauvaise nouvelle; en effet la classe vedette de l’événement, les voitures de la très populaire Pro Mod Racing Association, se retirait. Avec regret, le directeur de la PMRA, Bruce Mehlenbacher, citait les récents incidents des derniers événements de cette série qui laissent plusieurs voitures hors d’usage en justification à cette décision de dernière minute.
Avec le retrait de la classe vedette de l’événement , le spectacle attendu et très médiatisé était en danger d’être annulé. Sans pratiquement aucun délai pour trouver une solution, Arnold en était au point où il n’avait pas d’autre choix que d’annoncer la mauvaise nouvelle aux amateurs de course du Québec.
Après avoir fait quelques téléphones auprès des gens de l’industrie afin de discuter des options possibles, Arnold a pris l’audacieuse décision de présenter l’événement malgré tout comme prévu sans même une seule voiture vedette au programme! Vous devez vous demander ce qu’il a pensé? Arnold a alors eu l’idée de contacter tous les propriétaires des voitures les plus rapides du Québec et leur expliquer la situation. La réponse fut unanime, les coureurs québécois ont tous accepté de se regrouper et de sauver l’événement et le spectacle!
En seulement 2 jours, Arnold, avec l’aide de Remorque Montréal et de DragRaceQuebec.com a rassemblé un nombre impressionnant de bolides de course de partout en province. Comme si tout le monde qui avait entendu parler de ce qui s’était passé était prêt à aider pour faire en sorte que cet évènement soit une réussite. Merci pour l’incroyable réponse d’un groupe d’élite de coureurs québécois et ontariens qui ont décidé de soutenir la série Remorques Montréal-DragRaceQuebec.com pour présenter une classe vedette lors du Grand National à iCar. Les amateurs de courses québécois auront droit à tout un spectacle!
Pour ajouter au divertissement des spectateurs, il y aura finalement une plus grande variété de voitures rapides au menu, y compris des Pro Mods, Alcohol Funny Car et Dragsters, Outlaws, Pro Stock, Nitrous, Top Dragsters et Top Sportsman. Pour remercier les propriétaires de voitures rapides participant au Grand National iCar ‘’made in Québec’’, tout coureur de la classe heads-up franchissant le huitième de mille en moins de 4.80 pourront tenter leur chance de se qualifier pour le Quick 16 et ce, gratuitement.
La scène de l’accélération au Québec en doit toute une aux propriétaires et coureurs qui ont rendu l’impossible, possible en quelques jours. En se regroupant, ils feront de cet évènement, un weekend mémorable.

With only a couple of weeks left before Quebec’s biggest drag racing show of the year, the Snap-On Grand Nationals, was scheduled to take place at the new Circuit iCar racing facility in Mirabel Quebec, Race Series Director, Richard Arnold, received the worst of all possible news. The featured class of the event, the cars from the ever popular Pro Mod Racing Association, were pulling out. PMRA Director, Bruce Mehlenbacher, citing recent incidents at other PMRA events leaving some cars out of commission as the reason for the last minute decision, delivered the news with regret.
With the event headliner now missing from the schedule, the highly publicized and much anticipated show was now in jeopardy of being cancelled. With virtually no time left, Arnold was in a position in which he would likely have no choice but to deliver the disappointing news to the Quebec racing public.
After consulting with some of his Quebec racing industry peers to discuss any possible options, Arnold made the bold decision to run the event as originally planned. Without even a single headliner car left on the schedule, you have to wonder what he might have been thinking. Where most promotors might not have seen an option, or even had one to consider, Arnold had a notion that if he contacted the owners of all of the fastest cars from all over Quebec and explained the situation, that they might be willing to step up and step in to save the day, and the show, and so they did. “En mass” (in force), as they would say in Quebec.
In only two days, Arnold, with the help and support of Remourque Montreal and DragRaceQuebec.com, somehow managed to gather an impressive array of drag racing machinery from all over the Province. It seemed that everyone who heard what had happened was more than willing to do whatever it took to make sure that these efforts to promote high quality, high horsepower drag racing in Quebec were not wasted. Thanks to an overwhelming response from an elite group of Quebec racers (not to mention some from Ontario who have decided to support these efforts as well), the featured class at iCar’s Snap On Grand Nationals will not disappoint, and the show will go on!
To add to the entertainment value for the spectators, there will now be a wider variety of fast cars participating including Pro Mods, Alcohol Funny Cars and Dragsters, Outlaw Cars, Nitrous Pro Stocks, Top Dragsters and Top Sportsman Cars as well. As a gesture of gratitude to the owners and drivers who chose to make sure Quebec drag racing enthusiasts have their show, the featured class now offers free entry to any car quicker than 4.80 if they are interested in an all out, heads up race for the prize money between the fastest 16 cars to qualify.
The Quebec Drag Racing scene owes a debt of gratitude to these owners and drivers who made what only a few days ago seemed impossible, possible. In the process, they have made what was going to be a great scheduled event, even better.
